How to Clear Download History in Safari on a Mac
You may want to know how to clear download history in the Safari browser on Mac, while using the Safari browser on Mac, it is easy to see a list of files you have downloaded in the past and clear this download history if necessary. Here's how to do it.
Delete download history on safari
Deleting the download history on Safari is very simple and only needs a few steps. To do that, follow the following:
- First, open the Safari app on your Mac.
- In any window in the Safari browser, look to the right of the address bar for an icon that looks like an arrow pointing down in a circle.
- If you see it, click it or press Option + Command + L. (If you don't see the arrow icon, Safari doesn't have any download history to display.)
When the download menu opens, you will see a list of the files you have downloaded recently. Somewhat confusingly, when you save certain media files like photos, songs, and videos in Safari on Mac, Safari doesn't include them in the download history list, so you won't see them there.
- To reveal the location of the downloaded file in Finder, right-click on the file in the list and choose Show in Finder. Or click the small magnifying glass icon next to the file.
- After that, a Finder window will appear on your Safari window.
- Through it, you will see the downloaded file marked.
Note: By default, Safari automatically decompresses downloaded files and removes the original ZIP files. To turn this off, open Safari's preferences, click "General," and uncheck "Open Safe Files" after downloading.
- To remove a specific file from the list, right-click on it and choose "Remove from list".
- To clear the entire list of downloads, click the "Scan" button in the upper-right corner of the Downloads popup.
- Now Safari will clear the list of downloads and the Downloads icon (arrow) in the toolbar will disappear.
- And anytime you want to see the list of downloads again - if it hasn't been cleared recently - click the Downloads icon or press Option + Command + L on your keyboard. That's all about it.
